How to collect a urine sample at home
As part of your dog's wellness exam a urine sample needs to be collected from your pet for us to run urine tests. Here are some helpful tips on how to collect this sample, avoiding the splash back!
There are several different ways you can obtain a urine sample from your dog. The most common way is to catch a sample in a clean, dry container, such as an aluminum pie pan, plastic dish or an old soup ladle.
Male dogs – Place the container under the stream and collect.
Female dogs – Flat/shallow containers are best. Place the container under her as she is squatting.
If you have been provided a yellow-top urine pot from us, transfer the urine from the container to this pot. If you don't have a sample pot, transfer the urine into a clean, dry leak-proof container, such as takeaway containers or glass jars.
